A born and raised San Diega
n, Kiara Martinez currently attends San Diego State University with a major in Journalism. Although her first interest was to be a music major due to her heavy musical background as a violinist and vocalist in a local band, a teacher in high school suggested that she pursue a career in literature or language studies. Taking rigorous writing courses in high school increased Kiara’s interest in verbal and written communication. After recently changing her major from Music Education to Journalism so that she could continue to work on her writing skills, Kiara discovered that writing for Journalism was her true calling. She hopes to pursue a career in news writing. Kiara is still able to participate in the San Diego music scene by performing with Mariachi Estrellas de Chula Vista, an award-winning group based out of San Diego.
