SAN DIEGO- For decades, the San Diego Association of Black Journalists (SDABJ) has served as a beacon of hope and light for students looking to start their careers in journalism.

On April 11, 2025, at the University Club Atop Symphony Towers, SDABJ will celebrate a new class of potential journalists during our annual scholarship reception and 25th anniversary celebration.

To help inspire the aspiring journalists, CNN’s multi-award-winning Senior National Correspondent and Co-Anchor of CNN News Central, Sara Sidner, will be the keynote speaker for the event.

Since its founding on Feb. 1, 2000, SDABJ has sent more than 50 students to college to pursue their dreams of getting a degree in journalism, communications or public relations. Some of the students have gone on to work at organizations such as Wired Magazine, The New York Times, and local newsrooms in San Diego and across the country.

The SDABJ scholarship applications are now available until March 15th. All high school and college students interested in journalism, media, and/or communications are encouraged to apply.

Tickets are $30 if bought by April 1 and $40 after that and at the door. Students and journalists in the area can join with proof of employment for just $25 in honor of celebrating SDABJ’s 25th anniversary.
