News Conference

DSC_4321On Nov. 9, nearly 50 college and high school students learned skills that could help them achieve their dreams of becoming professional journalists. SDABJ’s Pro for a Day workshop began with an informative panel discussion where students got to hear from experts in their field.  Larry Graham, U-T San Diego sports editor, Shelley Wade, a 95.7 KISS-FM radio personality, Joel Hoffman, a reporter at Voice of San Diego, Brandi Powell, an NBC7 reporter, and Brandin Stewart, vice-president of sales at NBC7, all shared stories about their personal journeys and dispensed sage career advice.
After a “ripped from the headlines” mock news conference performed by several SDABJ members, the students steamed toward the 3pm deadline (it’s not art if it doesn’t make slot) and wrote the stories that can be seen here.
SDABJ thanks Southwestern College, Chick-fil-a, Twiggs’s Bakery, and everyone who participated and volunteered their time to create a memorable and educational experience.
